Our ancestors lived mainly from farming and woodcarving. According to oral tradition, the property "uf der Mur" (a field name for the Brienzerburli estate) has been in our family's possession since 1520. On January 1, 1975, Peter Huggler Sr. and his wife Edith, who died in 1994, took over the "Brienzerburli" estate from his parents. At that time, the "Brienzerburli" consisted of a bakery, a tea room and three guest rooms. Their aim was to develop the Hotel Brienzerburli in the village center into a modern, inviting hotel and restaurant business.
The Löwen property was purchased in 1991, followed by an adjoining half of the house, the "Swisschalet", in 2009. In 2011, the opportunity arose to acquire the traditional Weisses Kreuz, and just a few years later, in 2015, the Bistro Rothorn was added.
Today, Hotel Brienzerburli GmbH employs around 50 people during the summer season. The business comprises two hotels with a total of 130 beds, three restaurants with a capacity of around 400 indoor and 200 outdoor seats as well as the Bistro Rothorn, which is run as a daytime business and takeaway.
